The Brief
Fabricate and supply hot-dip galvanised steelwork supporting the facade of the Queensland Law Courts complex - a $570 million build that combines traditional and modern features, ties into the heritage of the precinct, and sits within the new generation of environmentally efficient and sustainable Brisbane buildings.
The completed project has since been recognised through industry awards.
Everything Metal worked in close coordination with builders, contractors, and installers to deliver structurally certified, multi-level steelwork through to site.
Over 500 individual members across the system, each one differently constructed to suit its position in the facade and the geometry around it. With that many unique parts moving through fabrication, coating, and delivery in parallel with a live build, quality control and direct communication with stakeholders were the way the job stayed on time and on budget.
Our Approach
The project ran close to three years from start to finish. Across that span, Everything Metal used every arm of the workshop to deliver a hot-dip galvanised structural system built around laser cutting, general fabrication, and a high focus on finishing.
With 500-plus members and no two the same, no single production line covered it. Different systems of testing, different production techniques, and different fabrication teams were assigned across the job to suit the variation in the work - structural members in one stream, architectural elements in another, sub-assemblies in a third. All working to the same standards, all feeding the same program.
Laser cutting did the heavy lifting on parts preparation - clean edges, accurate hole patterns, repeatable geometry across families of similar members. From there, fabrication handled assembly, welding, and pre-galv preparation through general fabrication methods, with finishing checked before each member left the workshop for hot-dip galvanising.
Hot-dip galvanising suited the application - structural steel, long service life, mixed exposure conditions across the facade. The HDG finish was specified across the full structural system, applied after fabrication so every weld, every connection, and every internal surface carried the same corrosion protection.
Stakeholder coordination ran through the whole three years. Engineers, builders, coaters, and installers all working to the same program, with Everything Metal supplying members in the sequence and timing the site required. Over 500 unique members, hot-dip galvanised, structurally certified, delivered to the Queensland Law Courts on time and on budget.
