The Brief

Mon Repos Turtle Centre is the visitor and conservation centre at Mon Repos, Bundaberg - one of the most significant loggerhead turtle rookeries on the east Australian coast. The client came to Everything Metal with conceptual drawings for a display feature within the centre. The brief was to take those concepts through to a fabricated, installed piece: durable enough for constant outdoor exposure, robust enough for a high-traffic visitor area, and finished to work as an interactive feature within the centre.

Our Approach

Our in-house drafting team took the client's conceptual drawings and developed them into fabrication-ready workshop drawings. Alongside the drafting, we advised the client on material selection - working through the outdoor exposure, the interactive-use requirement, and the longevity expected of a public installation to land on the right combination of material and finish. Stainless steel with a powder coat finish was specified to suit the application.

Fabrication ran across laser cutting, saw cutting, CNC folding, and general custom fabrication to bring the piece together to the developed drawings. Drafting and fabrication running under one roof meant the concepts translated to the workshop cleanly, with any detail resolved directly between the drafter and the floor.

Powder coating finished the piece, delivered ready for installation at the Turtle Centre - built to hold up to the coastal environment, the public traffic, and the interactive use it was designed for.
